After the dismissal of Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews from the American dance competition television
series ‘Dancing with the Stars’, Tyra Banks was appointed as the new host for the show starting with
season 29. Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli, and Derek Hough were the judges for the new season amid
the Covid-19 pandemic.
The show was kicked start with the performance of AJ McLean (Backstreet Boys’ band member) along
with his partner Cheryl. The judges were impressed with his performance but weren’t happy with the
little time he shared on the show. They wanted more of his dance and expressions on the stage.
Vernon Davis managed to win the judges’ hearts with his performance except for Inaba. Carrie always
points out the little mistakes in a performance. She noted out that Vernon’s partner Peta Murgatroyd’s
foot got off the floor during the spins in the performance. After the performance, Vernon acknowledged
that the pressure of being the best didn’t come upon him and that he would be taking care of that in his
Next up was Selling Sunset star Chrishell Stause along with the Russian model Gleb Savchenko. Stause’s
Tango performance on P!nk’s ‘Raise the glass’ was much appreciated by Carrie Inaba. On the other
hand, Bruno expressed how he wasn’t happy with the footing on the dance floor led by Chrishell.
Anne Heche has been phenomenal ever since she has joined the show. Her partner Keo Motsepe is the
first black professional dancer on Dancing with the Stars. The duo performed on ‘Don’t Start Now’ by
Dua Lipa. They got a score of six from all the judges ending their score at 18 points for the first night.
The salsa dance by Jeannie Mai and her partner Brandon Armstrong’s performance on ‘Tell it to My
Heart’ by Taylor Dayne got the most appraisal through the night from the live audience. Judges were
impressed with Mai’s performance and gave positive marks to the duo. The overall score was 18 by
getting 6 points from each judge.
Jesse Metcalfe had joined the show with the passion of learning how to dance. Metcalfe along with his
partner Sharna Burgess showed an outstanding performance on ‘Part Time Love’ by Stevie Wonders.
Inaba was happy with the performance but also pointed out some flaws that were visible due to his
passion for learning dance.
Skai Jackson, the star from Disney Channel has been excited to learn and dance along with her partner
Alan Bersten. They both together put up a Tango show for the judges. Carrie appreciated the efforts and
determination of Jackson to perform exceptionally. They closed their night with getting an overall score
of 21 points, 7 from each judge.
Kaitlyn Bristowe’s Cha Cha performance on ‘Stupid Love’ by Lady Gaga with the help of Artem
Chigvintsev won the judges’ hearts. After some suggestions and tips from Inaba, the duo earned 7 from
Hough and Bruno, but a 6 from Inaba, totaling it to 20 points for them.
Next up was Nev Schulman, star of Catfish and along with his partner Jenna Johnson, they showed a
dreamy and fantasy-like performance. They got a solid score of 20 overall from the judges for their
Foxtrot on ‘The Way you look tonight’ by Frank Sinatra.
Johnny’s Cha Cha performance with Britt Stewart got 18 points, 6 from each judge. The judges had
average reviews on the performance but still considered Johnny as a competitive contestant from the
rest of the performers.
Another Cha Cha by Justina Machado and her partner Sasha Farber was also placed at the top position
with getting an overall score of 21 points. By their positive remarks, Inaba and Bruno were later seen
dancing along with Machado.
Charles Oakley’s salsa dance on ‘In Da Club’ by 50 cents was glanced positively by the judges. Bruno
noted that Charles needs to practice more along with his partner Emma Slater. They ended their night by
getting 4 points from each judge, totaling to 12 overall.
Monica Aldama’s Foxtrot on ‘My Wish’ with Val Chmerkovskiy got positive and exciting reviews from the
judges. Their overall score was 20 points, getting 6 from Bruno and Inaba along with a 7 from Hough.
The Grammy award winner Nelly performed a salsa dance with his partner Daniella Karagach on his own
song ‘Ride Wit Me’. Nelly later admitted that he couldn’t be identified as a strong dancer but still, the
duo ended up getting 16 points overall.
Tiger King’s star Carole Baskins despite being new to a dance show performed with enthusiasm and
determination along with her partner Pasha Pashkov. They ended up getting 11 points overall from the
