In the period from the 1960s to the 1990s, we’ve heard about the most ruthless and brutal murder
cases. The reason as many belief is the disturbing and dark past of the people living in Europe. During
World War II, men got separated from their families and most of them didn’t come back after the war
ended. The young kids were not able to have a friendly environment around them.
‘Des’ is a story of a similar person whose father was a part of the war which results in profound distance
formed in the separation of the family. The story is on Dennis Andrew Nilsen, one of the most wanted
serial killers in British history active from 1978 to 1983. ‘Des’ brings us the real-life hunt of Nilsen by the
government agents and detectives.

Nilsen was charged with third-degree murder of 15 civilians (young boys and men) on 8th February
1983. After a 5-year long manhunt, it was reported by his neighbors who discovered disturbing things coming
out from the drain.
In episode two of Des that aired on 15th September, we saw Nilsen complaining about the
uncomfortable environment he was put in. According to Nilsen, he shouldn’t be treated like a criminal
but rather a person with a big heart. He feels proud of what he’s done to the innocent boys. He sees his
crime as a rather peaceful thing.
Nilsen blames his grandfather’s death, booze, and music as the reason for his ferocious acts to people.
In this part, we get to see how Nilsen was smart enough to try in convincing the judge that he didn’t
commit the murders.

The British drama series was announced in September 2019 and the production on the script started in
November that year. It is a three-part TV drama miniseries having each episode with one hour running
time. ITV Studios is the production company behind the project. ‘Des’ is the tenth TV project of
miniseries revolving around notorious serial killers of British History by ITV studios.
The first part aired on 15th September and over the next 2 days the next other parts were also released.
The show has gotten positive critic reviews but has been under view by the censor board because of its
disturbing scenes and the real acts of Dennis Nilsen.
