The Young Pope’s trip to a creepy island makes for an effective warning against religious dependency, if
not a shocking “Midsommar”- level horror show. We can see a familiar story in the latest HBO British-
American Drama series “The Third Day” features a lost man, a mysterious island, and an unusual group
With brilliant leads Jude Law and Naomie Harris providing committed turns and an ambitious structure
that breaks its story into three seasons. The first three episodes are termed as “Summer” and the last
three are “Winter” and in the middle is “Autumn”. The second part Autumn is a live 12-hour online
experience termed a “theatrical event”.
Sam (played by Jude Law) will be the leading actor for the Summer part of the series. The third part
Winter will be led by Helen (played by Naomie Harris). The middle part Autumn will include Jude and all
other characters of the series.
FIRST PART- SUMMER
“Summer” opens on the character of Sam. He’s a husband and a father who’s on a solo, sorrowful
excursion in the countryside of Great Britain. Near the coast, he comes across a couple of kids playing in
the woods- except that they’re not playing. One nearly dies before Sam intervenes, and he drives the
recovering teenager home, to her small community on the island of Osea.
Things start to get weird for Sam. The cell phone reception is spotty. The island is only accessible via a
causeway that is flooding at the most inconvenient moments. The young girl is whisked by community
members rather than welcomed into the arms of her worried parents.
Noticing all the weird things going on the island, Sam gets worried and wants to get back to his family,
but the strange circumstances cloud the urgency of getting back. The locals are helpful but opaque, led
by innkeepers Mr. and Mrs. Martin (played by Paddy Considine and Emily Watson). They both run the
local pub ‘The Oyster’ on the island.
After spending a night on the island, Sam meets Jess (played by Katherine Waterston). Jess is a historian
who’s come to Osea for the town’s fall festival.
the third day- a creepy mystery
HBO’s latest limited series fights to be formally experimental at every turn. The Third Day trailer was
released last month, it was enough to make the fans excited. Fans of creepy mysteries, effective
atmospherics, and anyone in this first-rate cast should be satisfied, but few will be blown away by how
the story unfolds.
The Third Day, created by writers Dennis Kelly and Felix Barrett, directed by Marc Munden premiered its
first episode ‘Friday- The Father’ on 14th September 2020 in the United States. On 15th September, it
was released on Sky Atlantic in the United Kingdom. The next two episodes will air next week. The
special live season ‘Autumn’ directed by Felix Barrett would be taking place on 3rd October.
It is directed in a way that makes it look different and fascinating for the viewers. All the episodes are
named on a particular day of the week. The first two episodes of both the parts (Summer and Winter)
premiered as a Primetime setup in the 2020 Toronto International Film Festival held on 11th September.
