The ‘Dancing With the Stars’ record-breaking champion Derek Hough returned to the show as a judge in
season 29. After winning six times out of seventeen appearances on the show, Derek decided to leave
the show in 2016 to be a judge at the NBC’s popular dance series ‘World of Dance’.
The 35-year old has been nominated for Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Choreography nine
times for his dancing routines on DWTS. He won the Emmy two times for his performance in season 17
and season 21 of Dancing With the Stars.
Derek as the judge in season 29 of ‘dwts’
Derek Hough returned to the show as a judge replacement of Len Goodman. Along with Goodman, the
show long time hosts Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews were also replaced by the new host, Tyra Banks.
The reason for the removal of Tom and Erin was a ‘change in the creative team’ as heard from the
production team of DWTS.
After spending a week as a judge, it’s getting difficult for the former winner to sit on the chair and look
at the contestants do all the dancing. In the latest episode of DWTS season 29, Derek announced that he
will be appearing in a new dance routine on the show.
Hough has been a professional dancer for a long time and has been the best in his performances ever
since. Many former contestants and partners have expressed their views on how Derek has been a great
inspiration for them.
On Tuesday, the deciding vote for the elimination of Team Oakley and Slater was given by Derek. “He’s
been a part of the show for a very long time and he knows about dance more than anyone I know”, said
an ex-contestant on the show.
Derek having a hard time
He spoke to US Weekly about how he’s having a hard time giving the dancers his opinion on their
performances in much less time. Derek explained how he wants to point out the mistakes and help the
contestants briefly. But as the running time of one episode is roughly 60 minutes and fifteen teams are
ready with their performances in each episode. This in turn prevents the judges to help out the
performers by pointing out the things they could do to make their performance better.
Tyra Banks started as the host of DWTS from season 29 and has not been yet considered to be the
perfect replacement of Tom Bergeron. The show’s viewers have been decreased from the previous
seasons. The exit of Len, Tom, and Erin have not been the best news for the viewers of the show.
Season 29 aired its first episode on 14th September 2020. The show is moving on without any audience
due to the Coronavirus pandemic. However, the judges and the contestants have been doing a great job
for the people to enjoy the show from their homes as well. One team has been eliminated, there are
fourteen left in the ring. Who do you think is going to hold this season’s title?
