‘Charm City Kings,’ directed by Angel Manuel Soto, is scheduled to release on 28th October 2020 by HBO Max. Adapted from the 2013 documentary by Lotfy Nathan, ’12 O’Clock Boys’, the American drama film received top rating reviews after its theatrical release at the Sundance Film Festival held on January 27th, 2020.
The story writer of Charm City Kings is Moonlight’s director (2016): Barry Jenkins. A well-known director and producer who made it to the ‘Time 100’ list of most influential people globally. The best production team working under Sony Pictures in the movie is expected to influence a vast audience.
MIDNIGHT CLIQUE BIKER GANG IN THE CHARM CITY
The film walks us through the dramatic and ambitious life of a fourteen-year-old boy, Mouse. With the desire to join the extreme dirt biker gang in Baltimore by the name ‘Midnight Clique’ and the aspiration to become a veterinarian in the town, Mouse deals with multiple and challenging events. Charm City Kings revolves around Mouse’s different struggles to make a name for himself, especially being from the African American community that is considered a minority in Baltimore.
Stro, the elder brother, is highly idolized by Mouse. While Mouse stays away from home around the city to gain something for himself, his mother gets worried about him. Mother Terri and the town’s local cop, Detective Rivers, keep an eye on Mouse’s whereabouts. Gunshot wounds in the town killed his brother Stro. Witnessing her older son’s death, Terri takes all necessary actions to keep Mouse safe in the city.
FRIENDSHIP BETWEEN RIVERS AND MOUSE KEPT SECRET
The friendship between Mouse and Detective Rivers is kept as a secret from his friends. Rivers act as a shield to Mouse throughout the film, which helps him out in every way possible. The one thing about Mouse that the audience loves is that he is different from the other kids. He is ambitious and maintains distance from figures who demotivate him in any way. Rather, he spends more time around motivating and well-experienced figures like ex-con Blax and the biker gang Jamal leader. They inspire and give Mouse a chance to act like an adult.
Jahi Di’Allo Winston is playing the lead role of Mouse. Meek Mill (playing Blax), Will Catlett (playing Detective Rivers), and Teyonah Parris (playing Terri) are the supporting cast members in the film.
The screenplay writer of Charm City Kings, Sherman Payne, has done exceptional work in the film, contributing to its positive remarks. The 2013 documentary had a greater influence on the production team to direct the scenes in a way that will be entertaining and relatable at the same time.
