The American sitcom television series ‘Single Parents’ created by Elizabeth Meriwether and JJ Philbin, premiered on September 26th, 2018 by ABC Television. The first season consisted of 23 episodes that aired every episode once a week till May 2019. The second season then aired from September 2019 to May 2020 with 22 episodes. The question is- Will there be a third season of the ABC sitcom?
The series begins by introducing the lead character Will Cooper (played by Taran Killam). Will is a 30-year-old divorced man who has made raising her daughter the primary responsibility of his life. He has forgotten how to live his life with love and adventure between all the responsibilities and necessities. Being a newly single parent, he struggles to understand her daughter Sophie (played by Marlow Barkley).
When a group of single parents notices Will’s involvement in his daughter’s life, they decide to help him get back on his feet. He attends all the PTA sessions, knows more about princesses than Sophie, and never says no to his daughter. Looking at how deep Will has gone in the rabbit hole, the band tries to make Will understand that ‘being a single parent doesn’t mean sacrificing your own life.’
Single Parents’ primary focus over the running of the show is on the growth of the group. It focuses on the lives of all the single parents and how they deal with their 7-year olds. Some were at the same place, where Will is in the present. With all the pressure of being a single parent, all the group members were similar to Will and lived their lives depending on their kids.
SEASON 2 OF SINGLE PARENTS ON CHARACTER GROWTH
As the show moves forward with the second season, the focus slightly moves from Will and settles on the whole group equally. It walks us through the growth of the group and their relations with each other. At the end of the second season, we saw that the group was a one big family living their lives to the fullest with different and exciting adventures every day.
The band is mainly Angie D’Amato (played by Leighton Meester), Douglas Fogerty (played by Brad Garrett), Poppy Banks (played by Kimrie Lewis), and Miggy Park (played by Jake Choi). The cast of the film was announced in March 2018, just before production.
After the second season in September 2019, it got the ‘funniest sitcom fall 2019’. The actors were nominated for a variety of awards and were recognized by audiences from different countries.
NO MORE SINGLE PARENTS?
Despite getting many positive reviews and remarks in the last season, in May 2020, days after the last episode of season 2 aired, ABC announced that the Single Parents series would be closing, and there will be no other seasons. However, we know how many series by ABC reopen over the years due to the audience’s constant demands. Many will still expect for Single Parents to return. But for now, there will not be a third season.
