Over the last ten years, Karen Gillan has gone from one of Doctor Who’s most unforgettable companions to a bonafide action star with appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including leading roles in the Guardians of the Galaxy series and two most recent Avengers films, as well as the critically good Jumanji reboot and its sequel.
And as we look forward to an unknown future for the film industry, some might be thinking what’s next for Karen Gillan and whether we can hope to see the Galaxy Star Guardians on the big screen as well as our television screens. Yeah, yes, she’s got a lot going on, including a return to the offbeat Marvel franchise, another team-up movie with one of her Jumanji: The Next Stage co-stars, and several other ventures that look and sounds just like a badass, if not more.
What is waiting for Karen Gillan in 2021
We’ve never seen Karen Gillan’s Nebula use an infinity gauntlet like her comic book counterpart in Avengers: Endgame, but maybe just maybe, we’ll get to see the classic scene in the new Disney+ What If. a movie, which will involve a variety of various fictional scenarios from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Gillan is only one of the MCU’s returning actors who will be showcasing the roles they have made famous over the last decade as the show premieres.
The new film, which will be part of Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, has been in the works for quite some time now, long before it was announced in 2019, and sounds like an unorthodox approach to narrative that is going to be a nice refreshing spin for the MCU.
And while the exact scenario of Nebula had yet to be revealed at this point, Karen Gillan told The Hollywood Reporter in December 2019 that she had already finished her voice work and that it would be great to show fans “alternate realities” to all the characters involved. The precise release date for What If…? It’s yet to be announced, but Marvel has said it’s going to decline in mid-2021.
Gunpowder Milkshake – TBD
Judging by the title of Karen Gillan’s next project, Gunpowder Milkshake, we can expect the action star to fire a lot of guns and kick a lot of ass in what Empire described as a killer thriller with an incredible cast. In the upcoming film, Gillan plays a character named Sam, who was taken over by the elite crime syndicate known as The Firm after being abandoned by her mother (played by Lena Headey) when she was a lass.
Production on Gunpowder Milkshake (this name is too fantastic, by the way) was shot back in 2019, according to The Hollywood Reporter, and will be released by STX Films shortly. According to Deadline, the STX decided to release the upcoming action thriller after seeing a promo screening in Berlin back in early 2020 with everything happening within the world (especially the entertainment industry) no release date has been given at this time.
