Victoria’s Secret Rebrand: Priyanka Chopra, Megan Rapinoe and Valentina Sampaio New Ambassadors

Victoria's Secret is bidding goodbye to signature ‘Angels’ and hello to activists, actors, and athletes as the lingerie brand's fresh spokespeople.

Plus-size model Paloma Elsesser has taken over the world of fashion. Whether she’s being snapped on the streets in her grunge fashion or walking ramps for iconic brands like Fendi or Alexander McQueen, she’s an enigma that represents a distinct and one-of-a-kind fashion sense and runway presence. Her keen eye for fashion can be attributed to her deep knowledge of the history of fashion.

Paloma Elsesser showcased her taste for unique and regal fashion when she took us back to the early 2000s by pulling the famed yellow and black tiger print Cavalli gown out of her fashion lookbook arsenal. Wondering why the dress looks familiar to you? Of course, it’s because it’s the same gown that Aaliyah wore at the 2000 MTV Music Awards. Aaliyah was widely known as a singer for her beautiful voice and her excellent dancing skills. The late Age Ain’t Nothing, But A Number singer also had a genius flair for picking timeless red carpet pieces. And that gown was timeless, indeed.

Paloma decided to wear the fierce animal print, high-slit, fur-trimmed gown to a wedding. Twenty-one years later and the timeless dress is still as breathtaking as it was in 2000. If nothing else, the way it flaunts Paloma’s curves just makes it even more of a sight for sore eyes.

“I’ve always been obsessed with this look,” Elsesser told Vogue when asked about her outfit. “It spoke to an era of cool regality that made the ’90s so iconic, and Aaliyah is the image of this moment that will always be sacred to me. I was so excited to celebrate their love, and when I told Eric about the occasion, we knew we wanted to take it there,” she added. “I sent him the picture of Aaliyah, and he literally said, ‘Say less.’ The dress was there in two days.”

The look also resonates with Elsesser’s personal attachment to Aaliyah. She admires the singer both for her music and her timeless approach to style.

“Aaliyah has always been a style icon of mine, from an oversized denim suit and boots to a yellow silk zebra print dress. She is the reference; she is the blueprint.” This sentimental edge made for a flawless tribute to one of Elsesser’s fashion role models.
