Chances are you’ve already heard about the “lingerie as outerwear” trend, whether you’re a lingerie newbie or a seasoned pro. It’s a common element to understand; with the number of lovely apparel available and the amount of money one may spend on them, it just makes sense to want to share these buys with the rest of the population.
This season, lingerie as outerwear has been seen on many of the runways. I, for one, am looking forward to it. I’m already a staple in the thrift store’s lingerie section. It could seem to be revolting. It could come off as risqué. But believe me when I say that when executed right, it is none of those things. That’s exactly what it looks like- lingerie as outerwear. The trend can be as basic as a bra’s lace trim peeking out from under a top to an entire outfit fabricated of cute little nothings.
So, take a peek at these looks for some inspiration about how to style this spring trend!
A Slip Dress
Slip dresses are a convenient way to experiment with style. To obtain this style, pair your slip dress with a leather jacket, edgy boots, and a chic hat. To make it complete, wear a coin necklace like this one.
Corset or Bustier
Since they fit like a bra, corsets and bustiers are ideal for wearing lingerie as outerwear. They may be dressed casually, as in the first look, or a little more formally, as in the second. This corset top is a perfect foundation that can be dressed up with a lime green blazer (another big trend for spring). Swap the blazer for a more natural color and the sneakers for some snakeskin boots for something a bit more classic or glammed up look.
Camisoles are the most obvious way to wear lingerie as outerwear. These tops are silky and lacy, and they’ve evolved into far more than just sleepwear. These kinds of shirts are now available as standard tops in most stores, but they started off as lingerie, and you will find a huge number of them in the lingerie department of the thrift shop.
Longline Bras and Body Suit
Longline bras and basques wear perfect with high-waist trousers and tops, and they’ll save you money on washing. Bodysuits are also simple and flexible pieces to add into an ensemble, with everything from see-through playsuits to turtleneck wool bodies to choose from; if the shirt is always untucked, it would be a lifesaver.
Under a button-down shirt, v-neck, or some other neckline that makes it, high-neck and strappy bras look incredible. They are both common products at the moment, so there is a wide range of options to fit any budget.
Remember that you are dressed even if you feel nervous about leaving the house, particularly the first time you try. Underwear is, after all, garments, albeit clothing that we normally conceal. It is not inherently unacceptable. Lingerie should be almost as beautiful and well-dressed as any other piece of accessory, if not more so.
