It’s the season to chop chop. After a brief romance with a mullet, Rihanna decided to go down a different road. She was spotted debuting a brand-new pixie cut getting dinner at Giorgio Baldi, her favorite Santa Monica restaurant, on Wednesday night.
The 33-year-old singer didn’t just amaze us with her hair. She put together a head-turning designer ensemble, including lime green tie-dye leather pants by Chrome Hearts, a Hyein Seo crop top with chains, a huge Western buckle belt by R13, retro Versace sunglasses, and white heels by The Attico. However, the most memorable part of the Umbrella singer’s pricey look was a shaggy-collared vintage Dior coat with an estimated price of $22,000.
In 2007, around the time she released Good Girl Gone Bad, her third studio album, Rihanna chopped her hair short and dyed it black. The decision to change her look was bold and essential, as it set her apart in the fashion world.
Rihanna’s longtime hairstylist Ursula Stephen also felt the Linda Evangelista-like transformation worked out great for the singer. “If she didn’t change her look, [the album] wouldn’t have been as impactful. Obviously, the music would have still been good, but her changing the look really made people pay attention to her,” she told Billboard in 2017. “The hair was the beginning of her becoming that ‘black Madonna’ like she said she wanted to be. I definitely give the bob credit for leading the way, because if she didn’t make that big chop, which influenced a lot of other changes, who knows if she would have done everything else that came after. And look at her now!”
The Fenty Beauty Founder’s now-iconic pixie first appeared at the 2012 VMAs. In this iconic look, Rihanna teamed her short strands with a bold red lip. Almost a decade later, fans are still eating Rihanna up in all her iconic pixie glory. Love it!
