Our favorite pop star has made history! Taylor Swift accepted the Global Icon Award on Tuesday, May 11, at the 2021 BRIT Awards. This was a first since UK’s lockdown last spring amid the covid 19 pandemic. The Bad Blood singer became the first woman and first non-British star to be ever granted this honor. The exclusive group of Global Icon honorees includes legends like Elton John, David Bowie, and Robbie Williams.
Many singers praised Taylor Swift’s work during the show, including Ed Sheeran and Annie Lennox. “Taylor is the same girl I met when I was 15; she is generous and kind and cares so deeply for her fans.” Selena Gomez said in a video. Game of Thrones fame Maisie Williams presented the artist with the award after the outpouring of praise.
“I want to thank my friends and family who know who they are,” the 31-year-old star said. “Whose opinion of me never changed whether my stock was up or down. If there’s one thing that I’ve learned, it’s that you have to look around every day and take note of the people who have always believed in you and never stop appreciating them for it.”
The Blank Space singer had a message for all her fans watching around the world: “I need you to hear me when I say that there is no career path that comes free of negativity. If you’re being met with resistance, that probably means that you’re doing something new. If you’re experiencing turbulence or pressure, that probably means that you’re rising, and there might be times where you put your whole heart and soul into something, and it is met with cynicism or skepticism. You cannot let that crush you. You have to let it fuel you because we live in a world where anyone has the right to say anything they want about you at any time. But please remember that you have the right to prove them wrong.”
Swift is also up for International Female Solo Artist, along with Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Miley Cyrus, and Cardi B. The star turned heads in a beaded and rhinestone-embellished crop top along with a matching skirt from Miu Miu.
Having been in a relationship with British actor Joe Alwyn since 2017, the beloved songwriter also has special ties to the UK and keeps going abroad to spend more time with her beau.
Swift had also won the 2021 Grammy Award for Album of the Year and five more nominations before creating a sensation by releasing Fearless (Taylor’s Version) on April 9. Looks like 2021 has got great surprises for the star in the cards.
