Hours after Mel B appeared in a video that highlighted domestic abuse, her ex-husband Stephen Belafonte flew to London, UK. In the Women’s Aid video, made in collaboration with classical composer Fabio D’Andrea, the Spice Girl appeared beaten bloody and covered in bruises as viewers saw her attempt to free herself from the clutches of a violent partner.
The 45-years old singer had recently claimed that she tried to leave her marriage to ex-husband Stephen for a decade but found it impossible to get out of. Stephen, 45, had denied all accusations of abuse.
On Friday, Stephen jetted into London, confirming the news on Instagram. He posted a picture revealing that he was traveling to the United Kingdom with 18-years old singer Malú Trevejo who he manages. Malú allegedly told her Instagram followers that she was quizzed by police over an alleged lockdown breach at her London hotel when she’d taken a smoke break outside.
On Thursday night, Mel appeared beaten and covered in fake bruises for a music video to highlight the effects of domestic violence. The shocking video featured Mel wearing makeup to give off the appearance of a bloodied and bruised face as she is being dragged across the room and hit by her partner. The video shows that while the couple’s relationship is nothing but bliss to those around them, she is left terrified by her partner’s abusive behavior behind closed doors. Towards the end, a bloodied Mel is seen fleeing her house after her partner leaves, desperate to escape his abusive behavior.
Mel is now a patron for Women’s Aid. “Whether it be the spitting or the strangulation, these are things that actually happen. They are all these women’s stories,” she explained, after the video’s release, “I came out of making that video with bruises because I wanted it to be an honest representation of what we have all gone through.”
The singer was excited about The Domestic Abuse Bill’s introduction into law. The new Act defines it beyond physical violence, including coercive control, emotional and sexual abuse.
Mel also talked about not seeing her daughter Madison for weeks on end despite divorcing Stephen, saying she is still stuck in a custody arrangement.
The singer also hinted that she has found love again with someone new in the five years that have passed since her last marriage. She also heartbreakingly admitted she was unable to be hugged or touched for a year after her divorce. Mel has settled into a new life with her mum in Leeds. Vowed to teach her daughters how to maintain a good relationship, the singer has banned yelling in her house.
