Fans have been desperately waiting for the second season of Netflix teen drama Outer Banks to premiere. The show instantly became a hit when it made its Netflix debut in April 2020, and fans have been eager for more ever since.
Netflix had confirmed that the second season for Outer Banks was in the making three months after the teen drama premiered on the streaming platform. The official instagram account for the show had posted with the caption “See you in the Bahamas ✌ ️” at the time.
Showrunner Jonas Pate had said that Netflix had okayed the team to start working on the next chapter of the show even before season 1 was released. In April 2020, he told Entertainment Weekly: “Ever since we started, we always viewed it as something that was probably like a four-season, maybe five-season show, but at least four seasons.”
Viewers were left on a massive cliffhanger in the final episode of the first season. Our favorite Pogue members were all in trouble, and the last we saw of John B. (Chase Stokes) and Sarah (Madelyn Cline) was them attempting to outrun the police after Sarah’s dad (Charles Esten) framed John B. for murder. Even though they could escape Outer Banks, many fans are expectant of their triumphant return to the islands.
“The Pogues think that John B. and Sarah are dead,” Pate continued. “We realized that gave us some dramatic possibilities that we could explore before we get them all reunited. We love that part of the show, having the Pogues together. Because that’s when we feel like this show is working the best.”
When asked about what’s new in store for the second season, the producer also explained that there would definitely be some new mysteries and new ideas. It will all be branching from the same spine of the same story but will branch out in ways that hopefully the audience won’t be expecting and will take them by surprise.
Netflix had released the first official pictures from the upcoming season in May 2021 and confirmed that new episodes for the second chapter would debut that summer. Actress Madeline Cline has also said that while she’s aware fans have plenty of theories about the troubles the characters will find themselves in throughout season 2, she hopes most of the audience will be remaining free from spoilers.
On Entertainment Tonight in November 2020, Cline said: “I want people to watch this without knowing too much. I want people to be going into it kind of blind, but the stakes are higher, and
the mystery gets deeper.”
Outer Banks 2 Release Date
Netflix has not announced a specific date yet for the premiere of Outer Banks season 2. However, when they released the first look on social media, they also confirmed in May 2021 that fans could expect to see Outer Banks return that summer.
Outer Banks 2 Cast Members: Returning and New
Fans do not need to worry. All our favorite cast members from season 1, including Stokes, Cline, Bailey, Pankow and other significant characters, are expected to reprise their roles in the next season.
Chase Stokes, alongside Pogues members J.J. (Rudy Pankow), Pope (Jonathan Daviss) and Kiara (Madison Bailey), are all expected to return for season 2 of the show. Cline and Esten will also be reprising their roles, along with other season one actors Austin North (Topper), Drew Starkey (Rafe) and Deion Smith (Kelce).
Not just returning members, fans will also see new cast members being welcomed aboard. Deadline reported in April 2021 that Roots actress Carlacia Grant would be joining the original cast as Cleo. Cleo will be a confident and fearless localite whose world will collide with the Pogues. In addition, TV Show Lost fame Elizabeth Mitchell will be playing Limbrey, who is a long-time Charleston native and skilfully masks her toxicity and evil beneath her southern charm. Looks like season 2 is going to be worth the wait.
