Recently, Courteney Cox and Ed Sheeran paid tribute to a cherished “Friends” moment. To mimic choreography from “The One With The Routine,” the odd duo filled in for the Geller siblings.

In the sixth season of the series, Courtney’s character Monica and her fictional brother Ross perform “the iconic routine” during a taping for “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve,” that they reminisced from their youth. Both Cox and Sheeran released a video of them doing the same dance, which included a dramatic tumble at the finish.

The 56-year-old turned to Instagram to post a rib-tickling video with Sheeran, in which the two can be seen dancing together and displaying their inner goofiness.

“Just some routine dancing with a friend,” Cox tagged the hashtag “ReRoutine” to her post.

Sheeran, a four-time Grammy winner, retweeted the video clip and stated in the caption, “Had a reunion of our own this weekend,” with the hashtags, ‘I know,” “friends 4 eva,” and “obviously better than ross.”

Fans of “Friends” were immediately enamored with the video; however, some were perplexed by the unexpected revamp.

Cox and Schwimmer, as well as their four co-stars Jennifer Aniston, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow, and Matthew Perry, recently returned for a “Friends” reunion special on HBO Max, which premiered last week. The unscripted episode featured cast reminiscences, blooper footage, and creators’ behind-the-scenes experiences.

On the other hand, Courteney Cox and David Schwimmer did not duplicate it on the reunion special episode. Ben Winston, the director of Friends Reunion, explained why The Routine was not included in the special episode to The Hollywood Reporter.

He remarked, “I did say, ‘Would you ever consider doing The Routine?’ And both (Courteney and David) of them were like, ‘Oh, please don’t make us do that.’ There were certain things I really cared for, like the table read or the quiz. I also couldn’t work out where it would have worked. I’m not sure it would have landed 20 years later. But it was definitely on my list of ideas that I pitched.”

Courteney Cox shared a video where she is seen doing The Routine from Friends with Ed Sheeran.

Courteney Cox and David Schwimmer did not repeat their iconic “The Routine” dance from the original show’s ‘The One With The Routine’ episode in the reunion special episode, which saddened fans. Courteney Cox reproduced it with Ed Sheeran and released the video on Instagram to make up for not doing it with David.
