Jenna Ortega, who rose to fame as Wednesday Addams is in talks to join the cast of “Beetlejuice 2.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, the young actress, who also stars in Scream VI is expected to play the daughter of Lydia Deetz. The role was portrayed by Winona Ryder in the original film. If the deal goes through, it will reunite Ortega with director Tim Burton, who directed four episodes of “Wednesday”. He was also an executive producer on the series. The filmmakers have set Michael Keaton to reprise his role as the titular character.

The film Beetlejuice achieved critical acclaim and commercial success upon its release in 1988. The horror comedy told the story of a recently deceased couple, played by Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin, and their efforts to ward off the new owners of their home, with the help of the titular “bio-exorcist,” played by Michael Keaton. The original film grossed nearly $80 million against a $15 million budget and won the Academy Award for Best Makeup.

A Blast from the Past

The Original BeetleJuice

The sequel has been in the works at Warner Bros. for some time before Brad Pitt’s production company Plan B officially boarded it in February of last year. Talks of a sequel surfaced in 2013 when Keaton confirmed that he and Burton were discussing doing a sequel. Burton said in 2014 that he missed the character of Beetlejuice, saying, “There’s only one Beetlejuice, and that’s Michael. There is a script, and I would love to work with him again. I think there is now a better chance than ever… I miss that character. There’s something that’s cathartic and amazing about it. I think it’s closer than ever.”
